Congrats!

Hello all!

We just want to start out this post by saying CONGRATS to all our graduates! We are so proud to see each and every one of you graduating! This year, we celebrated in style at Native Graduation where we were happy to see so many people come out to support all these wonderful students! We are so excited for what's in store for all you graduates!

And, all this means, this school year is over! Another big congrats to all who have made it through finals and can now live stress-free for at least a few days. Don't forget about all the great classes on offer this Summer, though, and start thinking about Fall as well!

We hope everyone has a fantastic Summer and we can't wait to see you this Fall!

Hello again!

Hello!

We have a big announcement! There's been a change in leadership in Wooch.een! Jasper has moved from The Treasurer position to Co-Chair and Travis has taken Jasper's spot as Treasurer! Congrats to both!

This summer, there are going to be a number of fantastic classes on offer here at UAS. Including  'Harvest and Preparation of Basket Materials', 'Northwest Coast Basketry', and 'Ravenstail Weaving.' So, if you're planning on hanging around, you should definitely take a look!

It's getting close to the end of the semester, but we're still going strong and we have got big plans for the future! So, stay tuned!

Hello all!

Wooch.een is making some changes for our future events and fundraisers! We will not be doing Candy Grams for Valentine's Day, instead we'll be selling them for St. Patrick's Day! Also, we are still working out the details for our banquet that will be happening on March 3rd, after oratory. We will let everyone know all the details as soon as we've got them all figured out. Just set aside March 3rd for oratory and Wooch.een's banquet and awards ceremony!

And, since we're on the topic, it's not too late to sign up for the Oratory competition! So, get your speeches ready! Register by February 17th!

Elizabeth Peratrovich Day is right around the corner! There are going to be a fantastic celebration down at the AnB Hall!

We're excited to report that the Senate hearing for SB 150, a bill in support of keeping Alaska Native languages alive, went well! Members of wooch.een showed up in support and multiple people from around the state called in to show their support for this fantastic bill! Let's keep it up!

Today, Feb 10th,  we will not be having a traditional meeting. Instead, First Alaskans is coming in to talk about Summer internships! So, come check it out!

Again, everyone is welcome to join us at our meetings! Every Friday from 4-5!

Tléix'

Hello!

Wooch.een has some exciting things planned for the future!

We are pleased to inform you that there is a bill going through the Senate which will support the revitalization of Alaska Native languages! We are going to show our very strong support for this bill by writing letters and talking to our senators, and we are also planning on testifying at the hearing for this bill! And, we encourage all of you to do the same! Keeping our language alive is vitally important to our culture, so let's make our voices heard and get this bill passed.

Just a reminder, Elizabeth Peratrovich Day is right around the corner, so put it in your calendars! There is going to be a big event in celebration on February 15th, the day before Elizabeth Peratrovich Day. We'll post some more details about that in a later blog. Wooch.een also has some big plans in the works for this special day, but you're just going to have to wait and see!

On February 17th, we are be going to have a fundraising dinner. We will let you in on all the details very soon, so clear your schedules!

On March 3rd, is the annual Oratory competition! So, all interested participants should get down to work and start practicing! There is even an oratory class this semester taught by the amazing Lance Twitchell! So, if you really want to be prepared, register today!

Also, Goldbelt is going to be sponsoring a 3-credit course on Ethnographic Filming. They are even planning to have some guest speakers in!

Thanks for reading! We'll continue to update this blog every week, so tell your friends! Or, better yet, come join the party and attend our weekly meetings. Every Friday from 4-5!
